A conflict broke out between Brano Micunovic, considered to be the boss of Montenegro’s criminal underground, and former PM Milo Djukanovic. This is accoring to Belgrade daily Blic, which writes today that the two are at odds over the so-called Zavala affair. Daily: Conflict between ex-PM, crime boss Budva Mayor Rajko Kuljaca, Deputy Municipal President Dragan Marovic and nine city officials were arrested in the case. The affair, which broke out in late December, immediately caused a conflict between Djukanovic and Svetozar Marovic, former Montenegro deputy prime minister, whose brother Dragan was arrested. Dragan Marovic and other accomplices are suspected of abuse of office which allowed illegal construction of an apartment complex in Zavala near Budva. The conflict between Djukanovic and Marovic has caused divisions in the ruling Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and separation of Budva board which openly supports the arrested officials. “Brano Micunovic has sided with Budva’s DPS. He had several meetings with the City Board officials and publically showed which side he supports in the affair,” a well-informed source told daily Blic. He stated that Micunovic had a special reason to be actively involved in the Zavala case because of the investments in the project. It is unknown how much money Micunovic invested and how he is connected with Russian company Mirax Group owned by businessman Sergei Polonsky.
