The Bulgarian Orthodox Church has voiced its opposition to American pop star Madonna's concert. The show is scheduled to take place in Sofia on August 26. Bulgaria: Church against Madonna The Church stated that it opposes the concert being held on that day, because it coincides with the feast of St. John the Baptist. “Madonna has shown during concerts in Christian countries a lack of respect for things which worshippers feel are holy, and her behavior during these concerts does not upheld Christian moral,” the Church sated. It added that August 29 is a day of strict fasting and that worshippers are not allowed to enjoy pleasures on that day, Macedonia's Makfax news agency reported. Madonna faced similar problems in Poland, when her August 15 date was cancelled because of the Catholic holiday of the Assumption of Mary. The popular American pop singer performed in Belgrade earlier this week to a crowd of some 40,000 people.
