Montenegro has asked for an agreement from Serbia for its new ambassador to be appointed to Serbia. This is according to Montenegrin Foreign Minister Milan Rocen, who said on Wednesday in Podgorica that the ambassador is expected to take his post very soon, "which is a sign of a warming of relations between the two countries". Agreement sought for Montenegrin ambassador Montenegro has been without its diplomatic envoy in Belgrade since Ambassador Anka Vojvodic was expelled last fall, after her country decided to recognize the Kosovo Albanian unilateral proclamation of independence. Montenegro has proposed diplomat Igor Jovovic for the post, who received unanimous support from the parliament’s committee for international relations and European integration. Jovovic was the former Yugoslavia’s ambassador to Ethiopia, and was a diplomatic representative in Finland during the time of the Serbia-Montenegro federal union. The opposition Socialist People's Party stated on Wednesday that with the new ambassador to Belgrade, relations between Montenegro and Serbia "will begin to steadily improve". The party added that a guarantee for that is “the behavior of officials from both countries,” while “special encouragement” came from Jovovic's statements given to the parliamentary committee.
