Montenegrin government representatives and the Association of Banks have agreed that Montenegrin banks must be provided credit support for a short time. After this morning’s meeting, Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic announced that Montenegro, thanks to the trust the country enjoys on the international scene and low debts, would have little trouble getting state-guaranteed credit, to be used by banks, according to Podgorica media. Djukanovic: Banks need support In that way, he said, bank solvency would be increased and the conditions would be created for the implementation of development projects. He said that the primary interest of the Montenegrin government was protecting the stability of the banking system, which is a pre-condition for the economy’s stability, development, and international investors’ confidence that Montenegro was a potentially good investment destination. Montenegro has a lot of work to do in the near future to restore the trust of bank clients, in order for deposits to be taken out of safes and “from under mattresses” and returned to the banking system and accounts, restoring the dynamic growth of the Montenegrin economy, said the prime minister, according to Podgorica press agencies.
