President switches to English when pressed about elections

Asked by reporters in Belgrade "what he plans to base his presidential campaign on" and whether he expects the support of the ruling SNS, the president replied with a question of his own:

"Who told you I was thinking about presidential elections at all? I'm not thinking about it. There's still so much time in this mandate, seven more months."

When journalists then asked "whether he will think about it," Nikolic replied in English: "Not yet."

The president added that he would decide whether to run again "when somebody talks to him about whether the time is right to hold elections."

"There are deadlines set by the Constitution, within which it is appraised, in line with the desires both of the incumbent president and of the Assembly, which deadline to respect so that the mandate lasts through to the end, while electing a new president during the time of that mandate. That is next year, and I don't know why you're in a hurry. Do you know how many obligations there are before the New Year - yet you're thinking about those that will come after the New Year," said Nikolic.
