Justice Ministry "to help Ivanovic as much as possible"

"Unfortunately, not much is possible and we must to be aware of what we can do. The Ministry is in constant contact with the Serbian Government's Office for Kosovo and Metohija concerning the flagrant violation of human rights of Oliver Ivanovic, who has been in detention for so long only because he is a prominent Serb from northern Kosovo," said the minister.

Asked what his ministry can do about it, Selakovic replied, "What do you think we might be able to do?"

"When our hands are tied when it comes to Kosovo and Metohija and when there is de facto no Serbian sovereignty in the judiciary, we can provide assistance to Ivanovic's defense and we will to that to the extent that we can" Selakovic said.

The minister also said that "statements of most (prosecution) witnesses were in Ivanovic's favor, but it would be inconvenient for the Kosovo Albanians to release him now and admit their mistake."

"I don't expect it from them, either, but it is scandalous that Ivanovic is still in detention," Selakovic said.
