"Serbia's prompt EU membership is goal"

This has been an excellent year for Serbia-EU relations, Davenport stated late on Thursday and added that Serbia can be proud of its achievements so far. Ten years ago, ten members were admitted into the EU and some time later three more were granted membership, Davenport stated.

He underscored that the enlargement continues and that Western Balkan countries, including Serbia, would also be integrated.

Davenport noted that the recent visits of high EU officials, including High EU Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton and EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele, are a clear signal of support to Serbia's EU membership.

Davenport noted that the role of the EU Delegation in Belgrade is to support Serbia and help the country achieve its goals.

The reception was attended by Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić, Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić, Parliament Speaker Maja Gojković, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić, Justice Minister Nikola Selaković, Interior Minister Nebojša Stefanović, Minister of Public Administration Kori Udovički, Minister of Culture Ivan Tasovac, Minister of Youth and Sports Vanja Udovičić and Minister without portfolio responsible for European integration Jadranka Joksimović.

The reception also gathered representatives of the diplomatic corps.
