BELGRADE U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of the State Philip Reeker believes there is willingness to implement all Belgrade-Pristina talks agreements by December. In an interview for the Belgrade-based newspaper Politika, he added that "Serbia is not expected to recognize Kosovo." U.S. official believes deals will be implemented by December Many things still need to be done, so continuous effort is necessary, he told the daily. "Implementation is, of course, crucial, and the demands are clear, because the European Council has set clear requirements for Serbia and Kosovo to move forward with EU integration, and those things have not changed," Reeker underscored. "The U.S. recognizes Kosovo, but it understands that there are different interpretations," he stated. "Recognition is not part of the talks and Serbia is not expected to recognize Kosovo, he noted. Instead, the talks are focused on returning the relations back to normal, which ignores recognition and focuses on everyday issues, those that affect the people’s lives," he explained. Reeker, who had been meeting with Ivica Dacic and Hashim Thaci ahead of each round of the talks they held in Brussels, said he could see "great achievements after one year." "A lot of credit can be given to the leaders in Belgrade and Pristina, but to the people as well, who, as voters, demanded of their leaders to do it - they wanted progress," he stated.
