Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) is willing to support writer Matija Beckovic as its candidate in the presidential election, Novi Sad-based daily Dnevnik writes. The SNS believes his candidacy would not only attract the “certain” votes from the SNS, New Serbia (NS), Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) supporters but also from “hardcore voters” of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and Party of United Pensioners of Serbia (PUPS) but also a large number of Serb Radical Party (SRS) supporters. According to the daily, Nikolic would in that case be a candidate for the prime minister. Dnevnik added, quoting unnamed sources, that SNS leader Tomislav Nikolić would give up on his own presidential bid if Bećković agreed to run in the elections.

According to the daily, Nikolić would in that case be a candidate for the prime minister.

“SNS still has not decided on candidate”

“The SNS will make a decision on the candidacy for presidential election once the elections are called,” SNS Main Board member Marko Đurić has said.

“Until the decision is made I can say that Tomislav Nikolić is ready to convincingly defeat (Democratic Party leader) Boris Tadić,” he added.
