Germany will work so that “Kosovo as soon as possible is a member of European family”, said German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle. He called on Belgrade and Pristina to start a dialogue, said reports. German foreign minister in Kosovo Westerwelle is visiting Pristina as a part of his Balkan tour and said that he did not agree with the draft resolution on Kosovo that Serbia had submitted to the UN. He pointed out that “a constructive dialogue needed to be worked on”. “A day will come when representatives of Kosovo and Serbia will sit at a table in Brussels, together with Germany and other members, where they will formulate their future in the European community,” the German minister said. “Independence of Kosovo and its territorial integrity are a fact,” Westerwelle said and added that “the map of the Balkans has already been drawn”. Immediately upon arriving in Pristina he met with Kosovo Albanian officials, including President Fatmir Sejdiu and Prime Minister Hashim Thaci. The German FM said that his country supported and would continue to support Kosovo. “Germany will continue working and promoting Kosovo so it would become a member of the European community as soon as possible. Kosovo’s future is in Europe,” he said and stressed that Kosovo policy’s biggest challenge was a peaceful coexistence of communities. Westerwelle said that Kosovo institutions first needed to do a lot more in combat against corruption and organized crime and to create a democratic environment and legal order.
