Member of the Forum for International Relations Filip Ejdus said that the claims that Serbia will recognize Kosovo with NATO integration are false. Ejdus said that there is no reason for Kosovo to be an obstacle for NATO membership, just as it is not an obstacle for European Union integration. Correlation between joining NATO, Kosovo “untrue” “I am not saying that our stance regarding Kosovo will not be an obstacle for one or both of those organizations, but that there is no reason right now to make a difference between these two organizations,” Ejdus told Radio Free Europe. He said that whether or not Russia will reconsider its stance towards Kosovo if Serbia joins NATO is a question that is up to Russia’s foreign policy. “There is obviously an indication that Russia would reconsider its decision towards Kosovo and that it would maybe even change its stance and let Kosovo become independent, as far as they are concerned,” Ejdus said. “It becomes clear that their stance towards Kosovo is not a stance that comes from a great friendship or love, but from their own interest. In that way, I think the Russian Federation is trying to stop the spread of NATO to this part of the Balkans. Since the spread of NATO goes against Russia’s national interests, they are using everything to stop this enlargement from happening,” he said. As far as the implications for Serbia are concerned, Ejdus said that he believes that they are being used as yet another argument by those supporting the country's military neutrality. “On the other hand, this can show the weaknesses of their arguments, because Russia is showing that its policy towards Kosovo are based its political interest,” Ejdus said.
