Presevo municipal assembly councilors in an urgent session asked for Basic and Higher Courts to be set up for the “three municipalities in southern Serbia”. This was announced by Presevo municipal President Skender Destani on Thursday. Municipalities in south want new courts He explained that the demand pertained to establishment of two courts for Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja with the seat in Presevo. “We are also asking for the prosecution to be set up that would also have its seat in Presevo,” said this ethnic Albanian politician. The councilors also asked to have proportional participation of ethnic Albanians in appropriate state organs, reports said. The session heard complaints that an agreement on the reconstruction of the Coordinating Body for Southern Serbia envisaged increased activity to integrate Albanians through employment in the state organs located in these three municipalities, while the shutting down of the courts and prosecutions in Presevo and Medvedja “shows that top state organs have no intention of realizing that agreement”. Some councilors suggested that Albanian representative should not participate in the work of the Coordinating Body until these issues have been resolved. The Presevo municipal councilors also called for an assembly of Albanian councilors from Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, so that this “highest organ” could consider the issues related to the shutting down of the courts, and further actions of the Albanian representatives in the south.
