European Commission Director for the Western Balkans Pierre Mirel said that there is a good chance that the interim trade agreement will be unfrozen. Following the positive report given by Hague Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz on Serbia’s cooperation with the Tribunal, the chances of unfreezing the agreement between Serbia and EU have increased, Mirel said. Mirel: Chances for unfreezing agreement good He said that there is no reason to worry about rumors that European Union enlargement will be halted once Croatia gets in. Mirel said that there is a very good chance that the interim trade agreement will be unfrozen on Monday at the EU Council of Ministers meeting in Brussels. He also said that Brussels’ decision to abolish visas is very good news that will bring many benefits to Serbia’s citizens. “It is a well-known fact that the European Parliament and EC strongly support the unfreezing of the interim trade agreement, which will enable Serbia to continue forward,” he said. Mirel said that there are people who believe that the conditions of the European Union are too strict in the integration process, but the Western Balkans must go through the process of stabilization because of the effects of wars in the 1990s. “The largest risk for EU association is not found within the EU’s worries regarding enlargement, but the decisiveness of the countries of the Western Balkans to face key challenges,” Mirel said.
