Ombudsman to tackle data protection

Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic has sent 15 amendments to the draft data protection law. The ombudsman’s cabinet stated that the most significant amendment was the one preventing bodies responsible for personal data processing from suspending other organs’ control over work efficiency at their own discretion, on the grounds of national and public security. Ombudsman to tackle data protection The amendments provide for more effective protection of national security and other legally stipulated interests, when they impinge on the rights of the individual. Jankovic has also asked for the deletion of a clause from the law denying the trustee access to certain information, archives, facilities and equipment without prior approval. The current law does not state who can give authorization to the trustee.
