The new Belgrade assembly managed to verify the mandates and adopt the first session's agenda after two failed attempts. 58 assembly members, from the DS and SPS coalitions and the LDP, first voted in favor of the new agenda, and then to confirm the mandates of the new assembly members, after the Radicals (SRS), and the DSS-NS coalition representatives left the constitutive meeting. Belgrade assembly fails to elect mayor As it transpired that there was no majority to elect the next mayor of the Serbian capital, the session ended. Previously, a proposed agenda, which said that the assembly would vote to elect mayor and the city council, failed to pass, because it was supported only by the DS-led coalition, the Liberal-Democrats (LDP) and the Associated Pensioners (PUPS). The SRS-DSS-NS grouping voted against both times after a debate, while the Socialists (SPS) abstained from voting. Finally, it was the SPS city board head, Aleksandar Antic, who proposed the new agenda that passed. The agenda specified that the Belgrade assembly would today vote to verify mandates, and elect assembly president and their deputy, as well as to relieve previous holders of these positions of their duties. The Belgrade assembly today convened for the first time since May 11 elections. The meeting was presided over by the assembly's oldest member, Branislav Belic, DS. This local legislative body in the capital has a total of 110 seats. The DS-G17 Plus coalition has 45 mandates, the Radicals (SRS) have won 40, while the DSS-NS, LDP and SPS-PUPS-JS have 12, seven and six seats respectively. Although the Socialists and the SRS-DSS-NS in May signed an agreement to form the local government in Belgrade, the SPS presidency yesterday decided to withdraw from the arrangement. The party said this morning that they will only take part in today's mandate verification. The assembly votes (FoNet)
