DS and DSS spokesmen Jelena Markovic and Andreja Mladenovic say that the government and the parliamentary majority are stable. The Democratic Party (DS) spokeswoman, speaking last night to Studio B, said that she did not see any crisis in the governing coalition, and that after a government session this had been confirmed by ministers who informed the media that the coalition government was functioning normally. DS, DSS: Coalition is stable “It’s in Serbia’s interests that the ruling coalition survives for the stability that Serbia so badly requires,“ Markovic said. The Democratic Party of Serbia’s (DSS) spokesman agreed, dismissing speculation that his party was reconsidering its position. “I think the government is working, parliament is working. Everything that exists as disagreement is a part of our mentality, and sometimes one problem kicks up a bigger fuss than it deserves,“ said Mladenovic in the same program. Markovic said that the coalition’s survival did not depend on whether the DSS supported President Boris Tadic’s bid for re-election. “Our position has for months been not to seek support, we don’t consider support a necessary condition for anything. It’s not good to blackmail someone with a demand for support, but we do think it’s better to put forward a single candidate,“ she said. The DSS spokesman said that his party would make its decision on who to support at a meeting this weekend, and that it would, regardless of the outcome, be agreed on with New Serbia leader, Velimir Ilic, the DSS’ junior coalition partner, who is also considering standing.
