Upon receiving the note, the Assistant Serbian Foreign Minister expressed his regret at the event, explaining that “the dubious decision by Novi Sad’s city authorities had no connection with Serbia’s state policy.”

Staničić relayed that Croatia expects an appropriate reaction from the Serbian Government, adding that he intended to contact Prime Minister Vojislav Koštunica and President Boris Tadić on the issue, Croatian media reported.

Novi Sad’s city assembly decided Tuesday to name two streets after two men who fought in the war in Croatia, including the commander of the paramilitary unit “The Wolves from Vučjak“(“Vukovi s Vučjaka“) Veljko Milanković and former JNA general Mladen Bratić who participated in the 1991 assault on Vukovar.
