“Question of political maturity”

“Should Serbia fail to do this, it will no longer have any grounds to refer to the international law concerning other situations”, Simić said.

“We are at a point where we need to decide whether we indeed respect the international law, whether we respect the most important legal institution or not, whether we are a part of the global system, or have decided to take a different road. This is an issue of political maturity [for the parliament] and I hope this resolution will be adopted. Otherwise, the UN Security Council will adopt either a resolution or measures that will lead to further evolving of the problem, that could end in with sort of repercussions”, he added.

Despite president Boris Tadić’s efforts to secure the adoption of a resolution condemning the Srebrenica massacre, the International Court of Justice did not refer to such document in its Monday ruling in the genocide lawsuit which Bosnia brought against Serbia 14 years ago.
