A state of emergency has been declared in the southwestern towns of Topolovgrad and Svilengrad as wildfires killed two people. The blazes have already spread on the territory of the Radovetz, Filipovo, Ustrem and Prisadetz villages. Bulgaria: Wildfires kill two The residents of the Radovets mental home and the people living in the Filopovo and Prisadets were evacuated. The inferno started on August 25 in the woods between the Ustrem and Strem villages and the fires were quickly fanned by strong winds. The fires have already passed over the Tundzha River and across the border to reach Turkey. A fire control centre was established in the Studena village and the teams of fire fighters and volunteers are fighting the flames from three different locations. The resources in the area are stretched to the maximum and if the blazes continue to rage Bulgaria may ask Greece to lend a helicopter.
