A man has been detained on suspicion that he "wielded an ax" in a Belgrade city bus traveling on Line 601, the Interior Ministry (MUP) has told Tanjug.

Man wields ax in city bus, shouts he'll "kill all Serbs"

Media in Belgrade were reporting late on Thursday that the suspect, M.M., also shouted "Allahu Akbar," and threatened to "kill all Serbs."

Citizens reported the incident to the police, who waited at the Ledine bus stop where they detained him. According to reports, he is now held by the police for up to 48 hours and will afterwards be questioned by the Third Basic Prosecution.

The MUP said that the suspect carried no personal documents and that they are working to determine his identity, and will later consult with a prosecutor on launching proceedings against him.

The City Transportation Company (GSP) told B92 that "some incident did happen" but that they "know nothing more than that."

They added that the man was "arrested afterwards" and that the police "also asked about the driver of the bus where the same man took part in an incident several days ago."

However, the GSP could not say where that incident happened.
