Police looking for missing boy recover body from river

The body was found only 300 meters from his family home, by a local villager who saw it floating in the water and then notified the police.

The cause of death has not yet been determined. Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic will on Monday afternoon hold a news conference dedicated to this case.

Local media in Bela Crkva, a town near the Romanian border, previously published footage reportedly showing a car used in the kidnapping of the boy.

The recording from security cameras, dated Saturday a little before 11:00 hours CET, shows a car that the boy was allegedly put into, the Belocrkvanske Novosti blog said.

The police said on Sunday they interviewed a large number of people during the investigation. The boy's parents were released after spending two days at the police station, state broadcaster RTS is reporting. The parents have been advised not to speak with reporters in the interest of the investigation.

Unofficially, Stefan Ilic was last seen on Saturday afternoon, near his home, when he "went to replace his father in the field."

"He was left alone with his younger brother because the father had to leave for 15 minutes," these report said, and added that while the boys were alone, "a dark-colored vehicle came by, Stefan was abducted, while the younger brother managed to escape."
