Serbia, Macedonia join forces in combating illegal migration
Serbian Police Director Milorad Veljovic and Director of the Macedonian Interior Ministry (MUP) Public Security Bureau Mitko Chavkov discussed in Skopje the joint fight against all types of cross-border organized crime.“The most important thing at the moment is to secure the 113-km long joint border,” Veljovic said, adding that is the reason why the number of joint patrols and operation teams will be raised.
At the meeting, we noted that waves of illegal migration will not wane, but that it is possible that the problem will grow worse, he said.
Veljovic warned that there is a possibility that, among illegal migrants, there are people capable of committing acts of terrorism.
Chavkov said that the cooperation between the Serbian and Macedonian police is excellent, adding that it will be intensified at operational and strategic levels.
Veljovic and Chavkov toured the Tabanovce border crossing and the joint contact center for police cooperation, the Serbian MUP stated.
