He said that the Hague proceedings against him were "politically motivated". Hague: Seselj continues his closing argument The trial was a process on a given topic, Seselj said and added that the Prosecutor's Office started conducting its investigation "only after the indictment was raised so that it could adjust witnesses' statements to it". Seselj further stated that there had been "no talk about a prompt beginning of the trial once he was transferred to the Hague Tribunal", and that he was "left on hold". "They launched a sort of a political and psychological war against me in the first year (of incarceration) already," he said. Seselj started presenting his closing argument last week saying the tribunal is illegitimate, and that using fake witnesses the prosecution failed to prove his guilt and further degraded the court's integrity. Seselj's address to the court was pushed last week from Monday and Tuesday to Wednesday and Thursday, after he underwent a second surgery when the defibrillator he had implanted in early January malfunctioned. On Thursday, Seselj spoke with evident effort and took frequent extended breaks. Of the ten hours set aside for his closing argument, Seselj has used six hours and ten minutes. He is expected to use the remaining time today and tomorrow. He has asked for an additional four hours, but the court has not yet granted the request. Seselj turned himself to the court shortly after it indicted him in early 2003, and has been incarcerated ever since. His trial began in November 2007. The prosecution has demanded a sentence of 28 years in prison, claiming in its closing argument two weeks ago that the accused is guilty on all nine counts of the indictment.
