The Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO) has criticized a judge who has acquitted ex-Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic’s son Marko and five of his accomplices. The SPO stated in a release that the acquittal additionally “strengthened the belief that a precondition for substantial changes in Serbia is passing of the law on lustration”. Acquittal of Milosevic’s son “disgraceful” “Judge Gordana Vidojkovic who delivered the verdict does not belong to the judiciary and with lustration the system in Serbia would get rid of all those who in any way took part in political murders, drugs, human trafficking, covered for the tobacco and construction mafia,” it is said in the statement. Marko Milosevic and five more persons were acquitted of charges that they beat up three Otpor members in downtown Pozarevac on May 2, 2000 due to the absolute statute of limitations. The six men were charged with beating Momcilo Veljkovic, Radojko Lukovic and Nebojsa Sokolovic. After the incident, Otpor put up posters with the photo of seriously injured Lukovic, saying “This is the face of Serbia” across Serbia. Attorney Dusan Cvejic has announced that he will file an appeal to the Court of Appeals, while Veljkovic announced that he will file an appeal before to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg due to violation of right to hold a trial within a reasonable period of time.
