Three policemen in Merosina near Prokuplje have been arrested after they allowed Kosovo Albanians to register fictitious residencies in that municipality. The ethnic Albanians from Kosovo - some 50 of them - sought to receive Serbian passports and recently obtained documents falsely attesting to their permanent residence in the town. K. Albanians given fake residency status Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said that the case was being investigated, and that fake residency documents would be annulled. Ten days ago several dozen people protested in Merosina, drawing attention to the practice. The protest organizers, an association of war veterans and the Socialist Movement of Toplica, also filed criminal charges against several local policemen.

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said that the case was being investigated, and that fake residency documents would be annulled.
