A Mercedes car was set on fire early this morning in front of the family home of Miorslav Denkovic in Bujanovac, southern Serbia. Denkovic told our reporter that the vehicle was doused with gasoline and that it was “sheer luck that it did not explode”, considering that it was parked next to the house and a shop. He also explained that “a car with Presevo license plates passed by the house during the night”, and that he told police about it, but that they said it was “hard to determine who was driving it”, and that the reason for this was the fact that “this is a multi-ethnic environment”. Presevo is another town in the same region of the country, home to Serbs and a large ethnic Albanian community. In the nearby town of Vranje, whose MUP department covers Bujanovac, Chief Dragan Stamenkovic told B92 that the case was “an attempt to set the car on fire”, and that his officers were working to find the perpetrators and discover their motives.
