Three more persons have been arrested in Kragujevac suspected of being involved in the smuggling of 2.5 tons of cocaine. Special organized crime prosecutor Miljko Radisavljevic said that the investigation against those suspected of being part of an international cocaine smuggling operation from South America to Europe was continuing, adding that three persons had been arrested in Kragujevac on Thursday. The Belgrade Special Court remanded Zeljko Vujanovic from Kragujevac and Nikola Pavlovic and Marko Bulatovic from Belgrade in custody for a period of 30 days on Saturday Vujanovic, Pavlovic and Bulatovic are suspected of criminal enterprise and illegal sales of drugs on an international scale. Recently adopted changes to laws on such crimes call for a prison sentence of at least 10 years, with no chance of early release. The drugs, seized in international waters off the coast of Uruguay in a joint operation between the Serbian security services (BIA) and the American DEA as part of an international counter-narcotics operation, are estimated to have a street value of about USD 250mn. One Uruguayan and one Serbian national were arrested in Uruguay while trying to get the drugs onto a trans-Atlantic ship bound for Western Europe. According to media in Uruguay, the Serbian citizen was carrying a Polish passport.
