Two men employed with the Kosovo assembly in Pristina have been arrested in southern Serbia three days ago, daily Politika reports. Officers with the MUP Nis department arrested three people, one Serb, and two ethnic Albanians from Kosovo, along with half a kilogram of heroin. The Kosovo Albanians have been identified as brothers Naim and Aziz Halimi, while the third suspect is a Nis resident, Goran Blazic. The newspaper has received confirmation from the MUP that Naim is the head of the assembly's car pool, while Aziz is a lawmaker. MUP chief in Nis Zoran Stankovic said that his officers treated the suspects "as they would any other". "We, with the police, an institution of the state of Serbia, had no need to make special inquiries about their possible membership in any of the illegal and illegitimate bodies of Kosovo, although right the next morning we had reliable information about this." "As far as we're concerned, neither these bodies, nor their offices exist, and for this reason we transferred them to our investigative institutions right away," Stankovic clarified. A District Court in Prokuplje that took over the three suspects sent them all in jail for one month pending the results of an ongoing investigation. Judge Ljuba Jovanovic, in charge of the case, told Politika on Wednesday that Naim Halimi immediately volunteered information that he was employed with the Kosovo assembly, but without specifying in what capacity. "During the interrogation, Aziz kept to himself. He did not mention where he was employed or by whom, and said he was only traveling to keep his brother company, without any knowledge that he carried the heroin, and also that he used the trip to get a ride to the motel near Kursumlija, where he was to see an old friend from Nis," the judge revealed.
