During investigations into the case last year, about 100 people were questioned, but no applications were submitted for further investigations, meaning that there are still no suspects in the murder. Ninth anniversary of journalist’s murder At the end of last year, the prosecution called for another investigation where witness-associate Dejan Milenkovic was questioned, though the information he revealed remains confidential. It was earlier speculated that there were five possible suspects: Mirjana Markovic, former State Security Chief Radomir Markovic, former Chief of the State Security’s Belgrade Center Milan Radonjic, and secret service officials, Ratko Romic and Miroslav Kurak. Curuvija was followed 24 hours a day by 27 officials of the state security services. There are no official suspects in the murder, but B92 learned two years ago that a witness does exist, and that he or she identified Luka Pejovic as Curuvija’s murderer, and that a written statement of this can be found in the Interior Ministry. No murders or assassinations of journalists in Serbia have been solved. Dada Vujasinovic was killed 14 years ago, Curuvija nine, Milan Pantic in 2001, while a bomb was thrown through the window of Dejan Anastasijevic’s home almost a year ago. Slavko Curuvija, owner of dailies Telegraf and Evropljanin, was killed on April 11, 1999. The murder was preceded by a story in Ekpres Politika entitled “Curuvija waiting for bombs,” which many regard as presaging his murder.
