The Hague Tribunal prosecutors have appealed the 33-year jail sentence given to Dragomir Milosevic. Milosevic is a former Bosnian Serb general indicted and found guilty for directing the shelling of Sarajevo during the 1992-1995 war in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Hague seeks life for Sarajevo siege general Last December the UN war crimes court judges convicted him on charges of murder, inhumane acts and the terrorizing of hundreds of thousands of civilians by troops under his command, and sentenced him to 33 years in prison, one of their toughest ever sentences, Reuters reports. "The Trial Chamber's sentence is manifestly inadequate and fails to properly reflect Milosevic's guilt," prosecutors said in their appeal brief Friday. "Milosevic directed an appalling battery of attacks against the civilians of Sarajevo [...] he intended to cause death and injury and to terrorize the Bosnian Muslim population." More than 10,000 people were killed in the Muslim-held part of Sarajevo in fighting and sniper attacks during the 1992-1995 conflict, the news agency said. Milosevic's predecessor as commander of the besieging Bosnian Serb forces, Stanislav Gali', was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2003. Although Milosevic did not command forces for as long as Gali', prosecutors argued he had used more indiscriminate weapons to attack civilians. Milosevic surrendered to the UN war crimes tribunal in December 2004.
