Mihajlovic: Serbia should turn to all sources of gas

Speaking at a press conference in Belgrade, Mihajlovic said that the Nis-Dimitrovgrad project could be brought from start to completion in very little time.

“It can be done in two to two and a half years if we decide to go for it. It is not easy to tell how much time the other pipelines discussed, for example the Turkish Stream, would take to complete,” said Mihajlovic.

Mihajlovic stressed that Serbia should no longer be closing out other options as during the time that the South Stream gas pipeline had been planned, doors had been held tightly shut to all other altrernatives.

“It is good for Serbia to have as many pipelines as can run through it, as we are importing gas, we do not have our own, and we do want to use it," said Mihajlovic.

She said that Serbia currently had a gas receiving route and it was not easy to tell whether and in what manner it would continue getting gas via Ukraine.

“It is no solution for Serbia to be storing gas in any other country. That is not enough and is not a foolproof option. It is expensive,” Mihajlovic said.
