BELGRADE A bill on the South Stream gas pipeline declaring the project of national interest will be adopted by the end of January, Mining Minister Milan Bacevic says. He stressed Serbia was ready for the start of the construction in its territory. “Law on South Stream to be adopted by end of January” “After adoption by the government, the bill will be sent to the parliament for adoption at the next meeting,” the minster said, adding the parliament would treat it as an urgent matter. “The Mining Ministry completed in less than 100 days the spatial plan for the South Stream, which has been adopted by the government,” he underscored. According to the minister, the bill will make the construction easier, including getting the needed permits, land expropriation and other things. "Serbia is ready for the construction of the South Stream, for which the bank guarantees and money have been secured for 2013," he stressed, adding the project would make Serbia one of the most important countries in terms of energy in the Balkans and beyond. “Russia owns 50 percent of the related joint venture and Serbia 49,” he stated, adding that the value of the Serbian share was EUR 900mn. “Once the pipeline is in place, Serbia will get EUR 500-600mn of revenue from transit fees,” Bacevic pointed out, adding that cheaper gas for Serbia was also expected.
