President: Serbia will meet obligations toward Fiat

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić has said that by March next year Serbia will meet all its obligations to the Italian investor.

KRAGUJEVAC Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic has said that by March next year Serbia will meet all its obligations to the Italian investor. Nikolic made the statement after touring the Fiat Automobiles Serbia plant in Kragujevac along with Fiat Group President Sergio Marchionne. President: Serbia will meet obligations toward Fiat In a statement to reporters, he said that by the end of the year, Serbia will be able to provide EUR 50 million of the 90 million total needed, and by March next year, will cover all the commitments of investment that the previous government had assumed. Fiat showed understanding for Serbia, which will fulfill the commitments of the previous government regarding infrastructure, such as connecting the factory to the highway, the Serbian president said. Fiat has entered into a huge investment and Serbia will try to secure distant markets too, he said, recalling that Fiat 500 L is Serbia's product too. He emphasized that it is Serbia's obligation to assist in the project. Sergio Marchionne was also in Kragujevac on Tuesday to day that representatives of his company had a productive meeting with the representatives of the Serbian government and that an adequate solution had been found. He also stated that Fiat will introduce another version of the 500L on October 9, and the Detroit American version in February next year. Marchionne said that the production of the Fiat 500 L in Serbia will go ahead as planned despite the present crisis in the world market. Despite the fact that the production of cars in Europe and the world fell by 20 percent, Fiat will produce in Kragujevac as planned, he said.
