Serbia’s public debt grows to 54.7 pct of GDP

Serbia's external debt totaled EUR 24.1bn at the end of June and it increased to 54.7 percent of the GDP, the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) said on Wednesday.

BELGRADE Serbia's external debt totaled EUR 24.1bn at the end of June and it increased to 54.7 percent of the GDP, the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) said on Wednesday. Relative to the end of March, the total external debt increased by EUR 18mn late in June. Serbia’s public debt grows to 54.7 pct of GDP The external debt of the public sector increased by EUR 376.4mn, while the private sector debt dropped by EUR 358.4mn. On grounds of the depreciation of the euro against other currencies in the structure of the external debt at the beginning of the second quarter of 2012, the country's external debt increased by 278.2mn. The external debt structure improved on grounds of the originally agreed maturity date, and the stake of the short-term debt in the total debt dropped from 2.4 percent in late March to 1.4 percent in late June. The external debt of the public sector increased by EUR 376.4mn, while the private sector debt dropped by EUR 358.4mn.

On grounds of the depreciation of the euro against other currencies in the structure of the external debt at the beginning of the second quarter of 2012, the country's external debt increased by 278.2mn.
