Turkish Airlines is a serious company which would be a good strategic partner for Serbia's national airline Jat Airways.

Turkish Airlines is a serious company which would be a good strategic partner for Serbia's national airline Jat Airways. This is according to State Secretary for Air Traffic Miodrag Miljkovic, who spoke for Tanjug on Monday in Belgrade. "Turkish Airlines desirable partner" Minister without Portfolio Sulejman Ugljanin said earlier that Turkish Airlines is willing to enter an arrangement with Jat on March 1, with the goal of forming a regional airline named "Balkan Airways". "We have not been directly in touch with the Turkish airline, so we are happy to hear about this. We would like Turkish Airlines as a strategic partner," Miljkovic said adding it is too early to talk about a name for the new airline, and that procedure will have to be followed in the transformation of Jat Airways. The Serbian government decided on April 16 last year that a new airline should be formed, after a working group for the consolidation of Jat Airways and the company's management concluded that the airline cannot operate with a profit. The plan is to establish a new national airline in a strategic partnership with a successful foreign carrier. Jat Airways acting General Director Vladimir Ognjenovic declined to comment on Ugljanin's statement. "There have been contacts with representatives of the Turkish airline and they are satisfied with what they saw at Jat," Miljkovic stressed. The tender for a firm which will act as a consultant in the process of Jat's transformation is almost over, but one of the bidders has appealed the selection of Deloitte.
