Price hikes after farmers, dairy reach deal

Serbia's largest dairy, Imlek, has announced an increase in the price of its UHT milk range starting November 20. One liter of milk will therefore cost RSD 1.8 more, while other dairy product will be up to RSD 3 more expensive, according to reports. Price hikes after farmers, dairy reach deal This comes after an association of milk farmers reached an agreement with Imlek to sell raw milk at higher prices. Imlek agreed to buy "extra class" milk from its farmers for RSD 32 instead of RSD 28.5 per liter. Trade Minister Slobodan Milosavljevic today did not offer any concrete comments when asked about the state's likely reaction to the price hikes. However, he expressed his satisfaction that the market had normalized compared to the previous months when milk and dairy products were in short supply as farmers and dairies wrangled over prices of raw milk. The minister said that while both domestic and imported milk can be found in the stores nowadays, the state did not make any imports, "as it wished to preserve the primary sector" - leaving it instead to the vendors themselves.
