Economic analyst Dragan Djuricin said that there is an inadequate level of economic activity and effectiveness in the Serbian economy. He said that the existing models for economic development based on a strong currency in a weak economy are not sustainable. “Serbian economy ineffective” “Strategic partners for investments must be sought not only in the EU, but also in Russia, China, and countries like Norway,” Djuricin said. He said that he believes in the positive effects in the realization of large infrastructure projects, despite the fact that Serbia has had problems with scandals and miscues in this sector. Djuricin said that he does not believe in the fixed foreign currency rate, and that Serbia could have a stable and predictable rate. “A new, organized monetary model would have to take into consideration not only the stability of prices, as it has, but also the stability of the exchange rate and the elimination of the low level of economic activity,” he said. The traditional Kopaonik Business Forum will be held next week, in which 450 experts for the governmental, business and diplomatic sectors will participate. The focus of the conference will be to discuss in which direction the Serbian economy needs to head after the economic crisis. Djuricin, who is one of the organizers of the conference, agrees with the analysis of International Monetary Fund experts that the current model of economic development in Serbia is unsustainable. Government officials and other conference participators will be giving alternative proposals to these models in Kopaonik next week.
