After the departure of an IMF mission, the government has worked mostly on the 2010 budget proposal, says Jurij Bajec. Bajec, who is an adviser to the Serbian prime minister, told Tanjug on Tuesday that the draft budget should be filed to the government timely that is before the session of the IMF Board of Directors late in December when the agreement with the Serbian government should be adopted. 2010 budget draft in late December “At the moment, the preparation of the draft budget is the most important since it has to be prepared in time, be approved by the government and be the key argument that the budget and the whole 2010 fiscal policy is harmonized with the agreement reached with the IMF and in keeping with the government's decision to reduce expenditures and emphasize the importance of investments,” Bajec said. He said that the Serbian Ministry of Finance is on the right track to prepare the proposal rather quickly. According to Bajec, it has been actively worked on the reform of income tax, which should include a considerable part of the total revenues, whereas on the other hand amendments to property taxation are being outlined.
