The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Governor Radovan Jelasic stated Saturday that the central bank will not limit interest rates on savings. But, he said, commercial banks should agree on the level of interest rates among themselves. At the summit of central bank governors and leading regional bankers in Montenegro's seaside resort of Becici, Jelasic warned that the countries of the region could face much stronger effects of the global economic crisis than previously expected. The governor also said that "citizens will feel its harsh consequences", adding that the return to the previous stage of economic development will last longer.
