Ten largest foreign banks operating in the country say they will continue with their presence here. The banks also described Serbia's banking system as being "in a good condition". Banks say they'll "stay in Serbia" "We are aware that it is in our best common interest and in the interest of Serbia to all pledge to keep the overall level of exposure toward Serbia," a statement issued after yesterday's meeting in Vienna said. Beside the representatives of the banks in question, NBS Governor Radovan Jelasic and officials from the IMF, World Bank and EBRD also took part in the meeting. The statement further says that the banks support a new arrangement between Serbia and the IMF which, they said, will enable Serbia to fulfill all her obligations and maintain microeconomic and financial stability. PM Mirko Cvetkovc said that the goal of the Vienna meeting was to have the banks commit not to decrease the level of cross border loans during 2009.
