Jelašić: Inflation to exceed target

National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Governor Radovan Jelasic said Monday that this year's inflation will be higher than planned. The figure has reached 8.8 percent in the first 11 months of 2007. Jelasic: Inflation to exceed target This year's inflation was projected at 6.5 percent. According to Jelasic, the targeted inflation figure for next year is six percent, which means that the issue of restrictiveness will be raised, in other words, to what degree the state will be successful in containing some prices. The central bank chief told B92 that the NBS, with foreign currency reserves between USD 14.5 and 15bn, will do everything to ensure minimal impact of possible political turmoil on monetary movements. Jelasic said that citizens would not feel any negative effect of "what will happen in the next few weeks."
