Foreign currency savings in Serbia are now at EUR 4.4bn, the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) said Tuesday. At the same time, it is estimated that citizens also have in their possession two to four billion euros which are not deposited in banks, NBS Monetary Policy Department Deputy Director Predrag Djumic told a round table on how to increase savings in Serbia. Hard currency savings reach EUR 4.4bn He pointed out that hard currency savings in the first nine months of this year increased by EUR 1bn, and that 40 percent of these are time deposits of over six months. Djumic also said that domestic currency savings are still negligible in comparison, totaling EUR 120mn. However, he pointed out that dinar savings had doubled compared to last year and trebled compared to two years ago.
