Under the amendments to the Law on Public Information and Media adopted in parliament on Monday, October 31 is the new final deadline to privatize the media.

October 31 set as new deadline to privatize media

Minister of Culture and Information Ivan Tasovac said that the goal of the amended legislation is to ensure a successful privatization of all media and continue the process of media reforms.

Instead of July 1, the new final deadline to privatize state-owned media will be October 31 and the proposed amendments also set time frames after which project-based co-financing of media from public funds will be prohibited.

Unless a public call to sell the capital of the media is issued by July 1, 2015, the privatization process will be halted, with the media companies to be privatized by distributing shares to employees free of charge.

Also on Monday, the parliament approved an agreement between the governments of Serbia and China on mutual establishment of cultural centers.
