Vote passed: Ukraine has a new prime minister PHOTO
Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada appointed Sergii Koretskyi as the country’s new prime minister, approving President Volodymyr Zelensky’s proposal with 289 votes out of 450, Ukrinform reported today.
Sergii Koretskyi (48) is the fourth prime minister during Zelensky’s presidency. He succeeds Yulia Svyrydenko, whose resignation was accepted by parliament on July 14, automatically triggering the resignation of the entire government.
The new prime minister was born in Lutsk and has spent most of his career in the energy sector.
Before his appointment, he headed the state-owned Naftogaz Ukraine group, and previously served as the head of Ukrnafta and Ukrtatnafta, companies that were transferred into state ownership in 2022.
According to official data, under his leadership, Ukrnafta went from being a company that recorded losses of more than around €196 million between 2013 and 2022 to becoming one of the country’s most profitable firms, generating around €784 million in net profit in 2023 and 2024.
Koretskyi previously served as CEO of the Continuum holding company and the WOG petrol station chain, while in 2019 he founded Idealist Coffee Co.
