What for decades was a demonstration of Russian military power will look completely different this year, according to Blic, which adds that the Russian Ministry of Defense has made a radical decision: there will be no heavy military equipment on Red Square on May 9.
This means there will be no “Armata” tanks, S-400 missile systems, nuclear-capable missiles, etc., with the official reason cited as the “operational situation.”
Unofficially, as reported, Moscow does not want to risk its most advanced military equipment becoming a “sitting duck” in the middle of the capital.
There will still be a parade on foot, with more than 10,000 soldiers marching through the streets of Moscow, but the sky and ground will be under an “invisible” blockade.
Zelensky: We can strike the parade
While Putin’s generals are adjusting their plans, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that drones could reach the Victory Day parade.
“Russia has announced the parade on May 9, but there will be no military equipment at this parade. This will be the first time in many, many years that they cannot afford to have weapons present at the parade. And Ukrainian drones could attack this parade. This shows that they are no longer as strong as they used to be,” Zelensky said.
Moscow as a fortress: signal disappears, air defense everywhere
Meanwhile, a state of total paranoia is prevailing in Moscow. Residents have been complaining for days about disruptions in mobile internet and GPS navigation, which is a direct consequence of powerful electronic warfare systems designed to ‘blind’ Ukrainian drones.
‘Pantsir’ air defense systems have been deployed on key buildings in the city center.
In addition, the city center has already been ‘sealed off,’ and security checks are stricter than ever.
At the same time, the Russian security service FSB is combing through every suspicious movement, fearing ‘sleepers’ and sabotage groups within the city itself.
This drastic change came amid panic over Ukrainian drones that broke through defenses and struck a luxury residential skyscraper just seven kilometers from the Kremlin.
