Early this morning, Iran launched missiles and drones at Saudi Arabia, causing a massive fire in Al Jubail, the country’s largest industrial complex. The attack comes amid escalating Gulf tensions and rising conflicts between Iran and the U.S., following threats by U.S. President Donald Trump to strike Iranian infrastructure.
Al Jubail is home to key petrochemical and energy facilities. The city spans over 1,000 square kilometers and hosts more than 150 industrial plants, contributing between 7 and 12 percent of Saudi Arabia’s GDP. Footage from the scene shows a powerful explosion followed by a devastating fire.
Saudi Arabia has confirmed the attack. The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced that its air defense intercepted seven ballistic missiles aimed at the country’s eastern region, with debris falling near energy facilities.
"Interception and destruction of seven ballistic missiles launched toward the eastern region," an official spokesperson posted on X, adding that damage assessment is ongoing.
The attack occurs amid heightened tensions between the U.S. and Iran. U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to bomb all bridges and power plants in Iran if Tehran does not relinquish control of the Strait of Hormuz. The deadline set for Iran expires tonight at 2 a.m. local time.
Iran responded to the U.S. threats by condemning what it called Trump’s “arrogant rhetoric.” The Iranian government has called on young people—especially athletes, artists, and students—to gather around power plants and form a symbolic “human chain” in protest. This move is part of a broader effort to demonstrate national unity and deter a potential attack on Iranian facilities.
Iran also warned that, in retaliation, it could target energy infrastructure in other countries. Over the weekend, Tehran already struck petrochemical facilities in Kuwait, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates, demonstrating its military capabilities despite Trump’s claims that Iranian missile and drone forces had been neutralized. Due to rising tensions, Gulf countries remain on high alert.
