Federer's "curse" continues at the US Open
No one has managed to defend their US Open title since Roger Federer in 2009.
The Swiss star won his fifth consecutive title in New York in 2008, which, interestingly, also turned out to be his last.
The following season, he was beaten in the final by Juan Martín del Potro.
Since then, 10 different players have taken the throne at Flushing Meadows, but none has managed to successfully defend the title.
The closest to ending the drought were Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, both of whom reached the US Open final twice in their careers after winning the title the previous season, but neither managed to defend the crown.
This season, we will also have a new champion, with Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe on one side of the draw, and Alexander Zverev and Karen Khachanov on the other.
