Dramatic turn – The beginning of the end for Donald Trump
Polls on Donald Trump’s approval show that men, who form the core of his voter base, are now abandoning him. His approval rating is the worst among all presidents, creating major problems for Republicans preparing for the midterm elections
As the U.S. military prepares to deploy around 1,000 troops from the 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East, things at home are not looking so good for Donald Trump when it comes to his MAGA base.
Notably, data analyst Harry Enten stated that the latest polls on the U.S. president’s approval show that men, who form the core of his voter base, are now abandoning him.
The drop in support comes at a sensitive moment, amid the war with Iran and rising economic dissatisfaction, which could create serious problems for Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections.
CNN’s polling expert highlighted a dramatic shift among male voters who were crucial to Trump’s 2024 victory.
“Trump won in 2024 thanks to men. Now they are leaving him. He won among men by a 13-point margin in 2024, and now his net rating among them is minus seven points,” Enten wrote on X.
“Men under 45: Trump won them by five points in 2024. Now he is down 19 points among them. Regarding the cost of living, he is now 30 points in the negative among men,” Enten noted.
A new Economist/YouGov poll confirms this trend, showing that Trump’s approval among men stands at 41 percent, while 55 percent disagree with his policies—his lowest support level in his second term.
Additional March 2026 data show that support for Trump among young men (ages 18–29), a group he “won” by 14 points in 2024, has “collapsed” to just 32 percent approval.
War and the economy have eroded trust
Analysts attribute much of the drop in popularity to the military operation “Epic Fury” against Iran, which began in late February.
The conflict caused fuel prices to rise by 34 percent and resulted in U.S. casualties, sparking divisions even among some right-wing figures who argue that the war violates Trump’s “America First” promise.
Trump’s approval on economic issues has also fallen to the lowest level among all 21st-century presidents, Enten emphasized.
New figures
Speaking about the new U.S. public opinion poll results, Enten briefly said: “If I were in the White House, one word would describe it: Yikes!”
He also explained that these results place Trump in a historical company you wouldn’t want to be part of.
He is either at the top or bottom of the group when it comes to 21st-century presidents and how Americans rate him on economic issues, at least among independent voters, Enten added.
The survey results revealed that only 18 percent of Americans say Trump’s policies help them financially—a steep drop from 44 percent just before his reelection.
At the same time, 53 percent of respondents say his policies hurt them financially.
The drop in support is not limited to men. March 2026 data show that Trump’s support among Latino voters has fallen to between 22 and 34 percent.
Even among white voters without a college degree, who are a backbone of the MAGA movement, support is now negative or barely above zero.
Trump himself previously dismissed poor poll results related to the war with Iran.
“I think the polls are very good, but I don’t care about the polls. I have to do the right thing. This should have been done a long time ago,” he told the New York Post.
Recent polls could spell trouble for Republicans as they prepare for the upcoming 2026 congressional elections.
Democrats currently hold a significant lead in congressional polls, ranging from 4.8 to 8 percentage points.
“These are numbers that would make me shake if I were a Republican running for Congress, because you really have nowhere to hide,” Enten said earlier this month.
