The President of the French National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, has filed a complaint after personal data of lawmakers and parliamentary staff were published on the social media platform X, describing the incident as a serious threat to privacy and security.
The President of the French National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, has filed a complaint over the dissemination of personal data of lawmakers and parliamentary staff on the social media platform X, French media reported today.
She condemned the situation as "extremely serious" and stated that she immediately contacted the public prosecutor and submitted a report to Faros, a platform dedicated to addressing illegal online content, according to Le Figaro. In a letter, also published on X and addressed to the public prosecutor, she specified that her actions were in accordance with Article 40 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Braun-Pivet cited the sharing of personal data on social media, including professional and personal addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses, concerning numerous lawmakers and parliamentary staff. The Assembly’s IT department conducted an internal investigation to determine the origin of this information.
According to evidence submitted to the judicial authorities, "this information is not the result of a hacking attack on the parliamentary databases." The President of the Assembly emphasized that these events "violate the privacy and security of individuals involved in a sensitive context."
She requested that all circumstances of the incident be thoroughly investigated to determine whether legal proceedings should be initiated, Le Figaro reported.
