Kyiv prepares for potential crisis, urges residents to stock up
Kyiv city authorities are building and maintaining stocks of essential food supplies and drinking water to provide assistance to low-income residents and people in difficult circumstances in the event of prolonged power outages or other emergencies.
Oleh Kuiavskyi, deputy head of the Kyiv City State Administration responsible for local government affairs, said that as part of preparations for the autumn-winter period of 2026/2027, the city has established and is continuously replenishing stocks of essential food products, Ukrinform reports.
In the event of disruptions to the energy system, these reserves would allow the rapid distribution of essential food supplies to low-income residents.
With the support of humanitarian and non-governmental organizations, the city can provide hot meals for 25,000 people.
“Food security in the capital is not only about having the necessary reserves, but also about having a clear system for distributing and delivering them to those who need assistance the most. We are preparing in advance for potential challenges during the autumn-winter period, increasing our reserves and continuing to organize farmers’ markets across all parts of the city,” Kuiavskyi said.
